Compassionate Small Animal Euthanasia in Omaha, NE

No one likes to think about the day they may have to say goodbye to a beloved pet, but it is a reality many companion animal caregivers eventually face. At American Animal Hospital, we provide gentle small animal euthanasia services with compassion, patience, and respect for the bond you share with your companion animal.

Euthanasia means “good death,” and that is exactly what we strive to provide. Our aim is to make the experience as caring and gentle as we can for both you and your pet, helping them pass pain-free and with dignity.

If you have questions about your pet’s quality of life or end-of-life options, please reach out to our team at (402) 493-6767.

Compassionate End-of-Life Support

End-of-life care is one of the most emotional parts of loving a pet. You may be wondering if your companion is still comfortable, whether medications or treatments are still helping, or how to know when it may be time to say goodbye.

American Animal Hospital is here to help you along every step of the way, from quality of life assessments to discussions about continued care options and euthanasia. When medications and treatments are no longer effective or feasible, euthanasia may be the best and kindest option.

Guidance Before the Appointment

Sharing Your Wishes With Our Team

When the decision to euthanize has been made, important details can be shared with our team before your scheduled appointment through our online consent form, or when you arrive for your appointment.

When you arrive, your family will be shown into one of our comfort rooms. Our team will review the consent form details with you so we have a clear understanding of your wishes, your preferences, and how you would like your pet’s aftercare handled.

What to Expect During the Euthanasia Process

When you and your pet are ready, our team will place an intravenous (IV) catheter in your pet’s leg so medications can be administered gently.

The first injection allows your pet to fall into a deep sleep, relieving any discomfort their body may be experiencing. Once your pet is sleeping, the final medication is given, allowing them to pass peacefully.

Our team will be with you throughout the process to answer questions, provide support, and help your pet remain as comfortable as possible.

Aftercare and Memorial Options

After you have said goodbye, we will take your pet into our care and prepare them for the next stage of their final journey. We give your pets the same care we would give our own.

If you would like memorial keepsakes, we offer complimentary nose and paw prints. We also have key chains to hold fur clippings available for $12.00. Our team will also help coordinate aftercare based on your wishes.

American Animal Hospital works with Rainbow Bridge at the Nebraska Humane Society and ECO Animal Cremation. They will pick up your pet from us and return their ashes to our hospital if you choose private cremation. We will contact you when your pet has been returned to us.
